Moss Gondwe and Tapha Camara join ALGA Board of Directors
The African Lotteries & Gaming Association (ALGA) has appointed technology executive Moss Gondwe and lottery industry leader Moustapha “Tapha” Camara to its Board of Directors, strengthening its leadership as it continues to promote responsible gaming, sound governance and sustainable growth across Africa’s lotteries and gaming sector.
The appointments were announced in separate posts on ALGA’s official LinkedIn page. According to ALGA, the additions to the Board support its focus on innovation, responsible gaming, sound governance and sustainable growth across the continent.
Gondwe joins board with ICT and governance experience
Gondwe brings more than four decades of leadership experience in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector. During his career, he has held senior leadership roles at IBM, Microsoft South Africa and Mimecast. At Microsoft South Africa, he served as Public Sector Sales
Director in 2003, where he was responsible for implementing local strategies for government and education initiatives aimed at using technology to promote sustainable growth and help bridge South Africa’s digital divide.
In late 2021, Gondwe became Public Sector Director at Mimecast, with responsibility for expanding the company’s presence within public sector organisations while mentoring emerging local leaders.
His career has also included advocacy for cybersecurity awareness and proactive government policy. Beyond the technology sector, Gondwe has served as an independent non-executive director of GolfRSA, the unified body of the South African Golf Association and Women’s Golf South Africa, since December 2021.
In announcing the appointment, ALGA said Gondwe’s executive leadership, governance expertise and strategic insight would support the association’s work across Africa’s lotteries and gaming industry.
The association said: “We extend our sincere congratulations and a warm welcome to Mr Moss Gondwe. We are confident that his experience, leadership, and commitment to excellence will make a valuable contribution to the Association as it continues to foster collaboration and shape the future of Africa’s lotteries and gaming sector.”
Camara brings lottery sector leadership
ALGA also confirmed Moustapha “Tapha” Camara as a new Board member. Camara currently serves as Chairperson of LONASE (Loterie Nationale Sénégalaise) and has extensive leadership experience in the African lotteries and gaming sector.
According to ALGA, he has demonstrated leadership in responsible gaming, institutional governance, regulatory excellence and the sustainable development of the lottery industry across the continent.
The association said Camara’s regulatory knowledge, strategic insight and understanding of the African gaming landscape would be a valuable addition to the Board. It added that his appointment reinforces ALGA’s commitment to promoting good governance, industry collaboration, innovation and the development of a well-regulated, ethical and sustainable lotteries and gaming sector throughout Africa.
ALGA also said it looks forward to Camara’s guidance as it continues its work on strengthening regulatory frameworks, encouraging continental collaboration and creating lasting value for its members and stakeholders.
Recent leadership developments
The Board appointments follow another recent announcement from ALGA, which congratulated Kemorwale Moruntshi on his appointment as the permanent Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Botswana Gambling Authority.
The association described the appointment as recognition of Moruntshi’s leadership and commitment to regulatory excellence following his tenure as Acting CEO. ALGA also noted that it looks forward to continuing its partnership with Moruntshi through the association and the CEOs Forum, known as The Black Table, as it works with industry leaders to support a responsible and collaborative gaming and lotteries sector across Africa.
The appointments of Gondwe and Camara, together with ALGA’s recognition of Moruntshi’s appointment, reflect a series of leadership announcements by the association as it continues to engage with technology, lottery and regulatory leaders from across the continent.
