Cambodia denies Thai report on arms seizure at border casino
The Cambodian Interior Ministry has strongly rejected a report by Thai news outlet Khaosod English that claimed Thai Marines seized a large cache of Cambodian weapons at Thmor Da Casino. Cambodian authorities said the report is inaccurate and risks increasing tensions along the Cambodia Thailand border.
In an official statement reported by The Khmer Times, the ministry said the images and location mentioned do not match the Thmor Da Casino area. Officials clarified that the site shown is actually a Cambodian police location and not a casino.
Location identified as Cambodian police facility
According to the Interior Ministry spokesperson, the location referenced in the report is Gate 56 of the Border Patrol Police. This facility belongs to Border Protection Police Battalion 825 and falls under the authority of the Pursat Provincial Police.
The ministry confirmed that this area is fully within Cambodian territory. It stated that there is no connection between the location and Thmor Da Casino, which lies elsewhere in the region. Cambodian officials said the incorrect identification of the site has caused confusion and misrepresented the situation on the ground.
Government rejects arms seizure claim
The Interior Ministry firmly denied that any weapons were seized from a Cambodian facility by Thai forces. It said the claim that Thai Marines confiscated arms from a Cambodian police site is untrue.
Officials added that presenting such information as fact creates a false narrative. The ministry stressed that Cambodian security forces operate lawfully within national borders and that no such incident took place at the location mentioned.
Reference to recent Cambodia Thailand border talks
The ministry also referred to Paragraph 8 of the Joint Statement issued after the Special General Border Committee meeting held on December 27, 2025. Cambodia and Thailand agreed during this meeting to avoid spreading false information related to border issues.
This agreement aimed to reduce misunderstandings and support calm and constructive communication between the two countries. Cambodian officials said the report by Khaosod English contradicts this commitment and undermines efforts to maintain stability.
Concerns over sovereignty and international law
The Interior Ministry stated that any claim suggesting Thai forces seized weapons from a Cambodian police facility would amount to a violation of Cambodian sovereignty. It said such an act would be viewed as unlawful under international law.
The ministry added that Thailand would be responsible for the actions of its authorities and military personnel if such claims were true. Cambodian officials said they fully reject the report and do not accept its conclusions.
Call for restraint and accurate reporting
Cambodia urged Thai officials to prevent the spread of incorrect information and to avoid actions that could increase tension. The ministry called on all parties to follow the principles agreed under the Joint Statement.
It emphasised the need for peaceful engagement based on mutual respect, trust and goodwill. Cambodian authorities said accurate reporting plays a key role in maintaining calm relations, especially on sensitive border matters.
The Interior Ministry concluded that Cambodia remains committed to dialogue through established diplomatic and security channels. It reiterated its position that cooperation and factual communication are essential to preserving stability between the two neighbouring countries.
