Colombia gambling generates $94M USD for healthcare in 2025 – Coljuegos
Under Colombia’s State monopoly model, online gambling channels significantly contribute to public finances. In 2025, Betplay and Súper Astro contributed more than COP 347.5 billion (approximately USD 94 million) to the country’s subsidised healthcare system, and the opening months of 2026 have maintained the upward trend. These revenues arise from the State gambling monopoly administered by Coljuegos and play a decisive role in health‑system financing.
11% rise in monopoly revenues signals growing betting activity in Colombia
First, the total amount generated by Betplay and Súper Astro in 2025 through monopoly revenues is noteworthy. This figure reached COP 347,587M and was channelled into Colombia’s subsidised health‑care system. In addition, Marco Emilio Hincapié, president of Coljuegos, underlined that these resources not only represent a considerable amount, but also mark a significant increase compared with the previous year. The rise was 11% compared with the revenues that the monopoly drew from both products in 2024. This figure shows that gambling continues to gain ground among Colombian bettors.
What were the figures?
In Betplay’s case, users deposited COP 5.5 trillion in 2025, a sign of frequent and intense use of the platform. It also contributed COP 745.6 billion in value-added tax (VAT), which, according to the official statement, is intended to support peace-building efforts in conflict-affected areas.
Súper Astro also posted a strong performance within the portfolio of “juegos novedosos” (a regulatory term grouping online betting and digital lotteries, which form a modern and regulated segment of the Colombian games‑of‑chance market) operating in Colombia and administered by Corredor Empresarial, the concessionaire authorised by Coljuegos.
Moreover, according to Súper Astro’s report, sales reached COP 754.8 billion, making it one of the most chosen options for users who prefer numeric betting and lotteries. The number of bettors is not specified.
Signs of growth in Colombia’s gambling industry
The 2026 figures already allow a snapshot of the sector’s dynamics over the first months of the year. Between January and the first part of March 2026, Betplay and Súper Astro contributed approximately COP 106.3 billion in monopoly revenues, showing that the flow of funds has continued despite covering only a short stretch of the year. In addition, this initial figure is 1.56% higher than the same period in 2025, indicating slower growth than at year‑end, although the upward trend remains intact.
In the words of Marco Emilio Hincapié, “From the entity, we have managed to strengthen the juegos novedosos industry, which includes Súper Astro and online betting. That is why every day we continue to make history in collecting resources for healthcare from this sector.”
‘Our commitment is to continue protecting the legal industry’
Hincapié reiterated the need to “continue protecting the legal industry”, noting that bets placed through unauthorised operators not only weaken licensed companies financially, but also divert earmarked resources away from peace initiatives, hospitals and healthcare programmes funded through VAT and monopoly revenues.
This suggests that, for both the regulator and the market, tolerating illegal gambling means lower revenues, weaker institutions and a more limited social impact from the regulated sector.
