DigiPlus applies for South Africa licence as part of international expansion
DigiPlus Interactive Corp has taken a step in its global expansion strategy by submitting applications for online gaming licenses in South Africa. The move is part of the company’s broader goal of expanding its footprint in regulated international markets.
In a recent filing with the Philippine Stock Exchange, it has been confirmed that DigiPlus has applied for an operator’s licence from the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board (WCGRB). These operator licenses cover manufacturing, bookmaking, and bookmaker premises, enabling DigiPlus to venture into various sectors of the gaming business in South Africa.

WCGRB is also one of the leading regulatory bodies of digital gaming operators. Its robust regulatory regime and e-readiness for online operations make it an attractive destination for global businesses looking for a base in the young and emerging gaming hub of Africa.
DigiPlus Chairman Eusebio Tanco described his pleasure at the company’s entrance into South Africa. He added, “The filing of our online gaming licence in South Africa marks another milestone in DigiPlus’ global growth journey, as we bring our proven track record of innovation, responsible gaming and player protection, together with our strength in localising games for diverse markets, to one of Africa’s most dynamic economies.”
New international footprint expansion
The company submitted the application just two days following the launch of DigiPlus’s GamePlus brand in Brazil, marking its entry into the South American market. The recent regulatory changes in Brazil have established new opportunities for international operators, prompting DigiPlus to identify Brazil as a primary focus market, alongside the Philippines. DigiPlus’s venture into Brazil indicates its systematic method of breaking into regulated markets through the utilisation of emerging opportunities created through new legislation. Localising games for gaming markets, as the company does, demonstrates its resolve to adapt to individualised regulatory spaces and customer demand.
Speculation and future prospects
Meanwhile, industry speculation surrounds DigiPlus’s potential acquisition of Melco Resorts’ stake in City of Dreams Manila. The company clarified that, while it continues to assess various acquisition opportunities as part of its expansion programme, no definitive agreement has been reached.
South Africa will be DigiPlus’s second international project, confirmed in September. If successful with the licence applications, they will aid DigiPlus in diversifying its digital holdings and gain exposure to a marketplace where online sports betting and gaming continue to grow incrementally within regulated environments.
