Galaxy Entertainment Group has announced changes to its board of directors following the retirement of two independent non-executive directors and the appointment of two new board members.
The Macau-based casino operator said William Yip Shue Lam and Michael Victor Mecca resigned from their roles as independent non-executive directors due to retirement, according to a company filing.
The company also confirmed the appointment of Jaime Sze Wine Him as an independent non-executive director and Robert Charles Drake as a non-executive director on the same date.
Retirement of long-serving directors
Galaxy Entertainment said Yip stepped down from several additional board responsibilities alongside his resignation as director. He ceased serving as a member of the Audit Committee and chairman of both the Nomination Committee and the Remuneration Committee.
The company stated that both Yip and Mecca confirmed there were no disagreements with the board and no matters connected to their resignations that required the attention of shareholders or The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited.
In its statement, Galaxy Entertainment thanked the outgoing directors for their contributions during their tenure with the company.
“The Board would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Yip and Mecca for their valuable contributions to GEG during their tenure as independent non-executive Directors of GEG,” the company said.
The departures form part of a broader board transition at one of Macau’s six casino concessionaires, as operators continue to strengthen governance and compliance structures following the industry’s post-pandemic recovery period.
Jaime Sze joins as independent director
Galaxy Entertainment appointed Jaime Sze Wine Him, aged 51, as an independent non-executive director and a member of the Nomination Committee.
The company said Sze brings extensive experience in the investment sector. He currently serves as investment director at Hang Tung Resources Holding Limited and is also a non-executive director of Prosperous Future Holdings Limited.
The appointment adds investment and corporate management expertise to the board at a time when Macau gaming operators are expanding non-gaming projects and reviewing long-term development plans.
Galaxy Entertainment did not disclose further details regarding Sze’s responsibilities beyond his committee role.
Robert Drake added to board
Alongside Sze’s appointment, the company named Robert Charles Drake as a non-executive director.
Galaxy Entertainment did not provide additional background information on Drake in the announcement. However, the appointment reflects continued adjustments to the company’s board structure as it prepares for future growth initiatives in Macau and international markets.
Board appointments and committee changes remain closely watched by investors in the gaming industry, particularly among Macau casino operators that are balancing regulatory requirements with large-scale tourism and entertainment investments.
Focus on corporate governance
The latest board changes come as Macau gaming companies continue to place greater focus on governance standards, financial oversight and strategic diversification.
Galaxy Entertainment remains one of the largest integrated resort operators in Macau through properties including Galaxy Macau and StarWorld Hotel.
The company has continued investing in expansion projects and non-gaming attractions as Macau authorities encourage casino operators to broaden tourism offerings beyond gambling activities.
The newly announced appointments are expected to support Galaxy Entertainment’s governance structure as the company moves forward with its development strategy in Macau’s competitive gaming and hospitality market.
