The Limpopo Gambling Board (LGB) launched campaigns to promote responsible gambling by directly engaging with customers at licensed gambling venues throughout the province. The LGB recently staged an outreach activity at Bettabets Moratiwa, a licensed betting shop, to celebrate Spring Day, an annual festival that is observed on 1 September 2025. This is a demonstration of the regulator’s commitment to creating safe and sustainable gaming platforms within Limpopo.

Continuing awareness campaigns at high-visibility locations

The outreach at Bettabets Moratiwa involved an awareness campaign designed to educate both the players and staff about responsible gambling practices. The Limpopo Gambling Board (LGB)has conducted visits to several licensed betting establishments within the province, including Thaba Moshte, BetSA Burgersfort, and Betfred Burgersfort. These endeavours involve the putting up of temporary tents or information centres within the betting shops, thereby offering a designated area where customers may seek guidance and pose inquiries concerning responsible gaming.

Providing education and support

During these visits, LGB staff members actively interact with players, addressing their concerns regarding gambling while offering personalised guidance on the management of their gaming activities. Educational materials, including brochures and posters, are distributed to enhance awareness concerning the significance of responsible gambling and to underscore the risks associated with excessive gaming.

Limpopo Gambling Board encouraging open communication

The primary objective of the campaign is to establish an environment in which players feel comfortable discussing their concerns about gambling without the fear of being judged. By encouraging open dialogue, the LGB aspires to advocate for healthier betting practices and to stress the significance of moderation. Additionally, this outreach initiative is consistent with one of the regulators’ mandates, which involves supervising the industry’s development while guaranteeing a safe, equitable, and responsible gambling environment for all stakeholders.

A broader public welfare commitment

As South Africa gears up for the November 2025 Responsible Gambling Summit, efforts like these highlight South Africa’s dedication to achieving a balance between the growth of the industry and the well-being of the public. The inclusion of the LGB at bookmaking outlets is one such case of joint effort between the regulator and operators to maintain regulatory standards and advocate safer gaming modes.

Beyond community outreach

As community outreach remains a priority, the LGB is also actively involved in enforcement initiatives against unlicensed gambling activities. In July 2025, the board, alongside other authorities, seized and demolished several hundred illegal gambling machines from unlicensed premises across Limpopo. These actions aim to protect players from unregulated games and secure gambling revenue for licensed operators.

Through these collaborative efforts, the Limpopo Gambling Board (LGB) reaffirms its commitment to the integrity of the gambling industry and, by extension, to promoting responsible gambling. These outreach campaigns serve as reminders that the safeguarding of players and the promotion of responsible gaming remain the foundation of the province’s gambling regulatory landscape. Towards the industry’s future, these efforts ensure that development happens against the background of safety, equity, and responsibility.
