Sands China Ltd’s long-serving executive Virginia Lam, known for her work on the company’s customer strategy, is set to leave the firm after more than 15 years, according to a report from GGRAsia. Lam is stepping away from her roles as executive vice president and chief customer officer after more than 15 years with the Macau operator. She also sits on the firm’s executive committee and is noted for her work on customer-focused initiatives.

Sands China, a subsidiary of US-based Las Vegas Sands Corp, operates five integrated casino resorts in Macau.

Long career across Sands China properties

According to her publicly available LinkedIn profile, Lam rejoined Sands China in March 2010 as executive vice president of market development. She later took up the role of chief customer officer in March 2020.

Before her return, she had earlier worked with the group between April 2004 and January 2007 as a special event manager at Sands Macao.

Her LinkedIn profile also states that she led teams across sales, marketing, loyalty and analytics, with a focus on “aiming for customer acquisition and retention in the casino and leisure segments”. She also said she contributed to the development of Sands China’s premium-play club zones, branded APEX, designed for the company’s “most valued guests”.

Prior to rejoining Sands China, Lam spent nearly two years as assistant vice president of casino marketing at StarWorld Hotel & Casino, operated by Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd, until February 2010.

Sands China’s responsible gaming push

Lam’s reported move from the company is noted at a time when Sands China has also introduced the Sands Responsible Gaming Academy under the Sands China Academy. The programme is designed to enhance staff and community awareness of responsible gaming and promote a balanced approach to gaming activities.

The Sands China Academy currently includes eight specialist colleges, covering MICE, hospitality, integrated resort management, entertainment, facilities, responsible gaming, procurement and retail.

At the launch ceremony, Sands China highlighted its ongoing commitment to responsible gaming. The company also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Macau to deepen collaborations in research, talent training and practical applications. Both sides stated they would ensure alignment with Macau SAR government policies to strengthen public education and promote wider community understanding of responsible gaming.

Sands China was the first gaming operator in Macau to introduce a Self-Exclusion Program in 2004, and since 2007 it has included responsible gaming training in its company-wide orientation for new employees.

Collaboration with Louis Vuitton

The announcement of Lam’s exit from the company also coincides with Sands China’s recent partnership with Louis Vuitton for the Louis Vuitton Cruise 2026 Macau Show, held on 13 November at The Londoner Arena. It marked the brand’s first-ever fashion show in Macau.

The event presented the Cruise 2026 collection by Nicolas Ghesquière, Artistic Director of Women’s Collections. The show was attended by Louis Vuitton ambassador Victoria Song, actress Carina Lau, Louise Wong and Yuxiao Lu.

David Sylvester, President of Global Retail at Las Vegas Sands Corp., said, “We are proud to have collaborated with Louis Vuitton on the Cruise 2026 Macau Show at our iconic The Londoner Arena. Bringing an international fashion event of this calibre to Macao for the first time marks an important milestone – one that celebrates the city’s growing influence on the global stage. It reflects our ability to unite luxury fashion, exceptional hospitality, and world-class experiences, further elevating the profile of Sands China. Our collaboration with Louis Vuitton embodies a shared vision to create unforgettable luxury lifestyle moments that inspire and engage, reinforcing Macao’s emergence as a premier destination for culture, creativity and sophistication.”

Macau continues to attract large-scale lifestyle events as part of its post-pandemic diversification strategy. Integrated resorts, including those under Sands China, have become platforms for global brands seeking exposure to regional visitors.
