Africa continues to be a key growth region for Super Group, with the company reporting strong financial results in FY2025. CFO Alinda van Wyk explained how the company plans to expand with a “disciplined rollout approach,” emphasizing sustainable growth across the continent.

Super Group, owner of Betway and Spin, announced its FY2025 results on Tuesday. Once again, Africa emerged as a standout market for the operator.

Revenue growth driven by African markets

Revenue from Africa increased 27% year-on-year, driving total group revenue growth of 22% to approximately $2.2 billion. CEO Neal Menashe described the performance as a “standout year” for the business.

The company highlighted Botswana, where it launched operations in February 2025, as “leading the charge.” Following the successful Botswana launch, Super Group plans to include only Namibia as its African expansion market in 2026 guidance, targeting double-digit revenue and adjusted EBITDA growth.

Van Wyk pointed out that Super Group is in the final stages of preparing for the Namibian launch, which it anticipates will occur in H2 2026. Licences have been secured, and the company is certifying its products ahead of the rollout.

Brand exposure supports expansion

Van Wyk highlighted the role of brand presence in Southern Africa: “We like to be disciplined in our rollout approach. We’re excited about Namibia. Our brand is already there in Southern Africa, with a TV network already broadcasting in Namibia. On that broadcaster, Super Group has rights. We’re also one of the biggest sponsors of football, so Betway is known already, even if they’re not betting. We already have brand exposure.”

Head of Investor Relations, Nkem Ojougbo, added: “We’re entering countries warm because they’ve seen the Betway brand. If there’s a game between Arsenal and Chelsea, you see Betway all around the stadium on LEDs.”

ZAR supercoin process advances

In November 2025, Super Group launched the ZAR Supercoin, a digital currency focused on African markets. Van Wyk previously said the timing was right due to rising demand for convenient payment solutions.

She now reports that the rollout is advancing, noting that the process “cannot happen overnight.” The company plans to launch the wallet for Supercoin by the end of Q2. Afterward, it will expand promotions to increase adoption and eventually roll the Supercoin out to other African markets beyond South Africa.

Early adoption has already produced benefits. Van Wyk cited “really good” uptake and reductions in processing costs and banking fees. She noted that banks have taken notice, recognizing an alternative way to interact with customers.

Localisation drives podium target in Nigeria

Super Group announced in September that it held a podium position in seven of its eight African markets, with Nigeria remaining the outlier. On its post-FY2025 investor call, Menashe said the company is continuing to “assess” its Nigerian strategy.

Van Wyk explained the ongoing challenges in Nigeria: “Nigeria is a bit different [from other African markets] because of the legislative change from federal to state regulation. We’re working with legislators to make sure we understand that roadmap.”

The rejection of the Central Gaming Bill by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in December 2025 has left operators navigating an uncertain environment. Despite the complexities, Van Wyk estimates the company is about 60% through its roadmap to make Nigeria a more effective revenue-driving market.

Ojougbo added: “We’re not just going to jump into a country if we don’t see a return or there’s no clarity from a regulatory perspective. We’re now opening the door, and so far we’ve barely spent a dollar in marketing.”

What lies ahead for Super Group and Africa

Super Group’s strong African performance underscores the region’s importance to the company’s growth strategy. With its disciplined expansion strategy in Namibia, continued adoption of its ZAR Supercoin, and thoughtful strategy in Nigeria, the company is well-positioned for continued success on the continent.

Van Wyk concludes: “We’re excited about the opportunities in Africa. By combining strategic rollout, strong brand presence, and innovative solutions like Supercoin, we are confident in our future growth across these markets.”
