Vietnam is stepping up efforts to cement its position as one of Asia’s fastest-growing tourism markets, aiming to welcome 25 million international visitors in 2026 following a strong first half fuelled by visa reforms, expanded air connectivity and growing demand from key overseas markets.
First half growth keeps tourism on track
June saw an anticipated 1.68 million foreign tourists to Vietnam, bringing the overall number of arrivals for the first half of 2026 to 12.3 million. The statistic puts the nation around the halfway point of its annual objective and shows a 14.9 per cent increase over the same period last year.
Authorities have also set a tourism revenue target of VND1.125 quadrillion, or around $43 billion, for the full year. The latest figures were reported by VnEconomy and cited comments from Nguyen Trung Khanh, Director General of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism.
The latest performance builds on continued growth in international travel to Vietnam. Officials said stronger visitor numbers have been supported by more favourable visa policies, expanded tourism promotion and rising demand from key overseas markets.
Government focuses on policy and overseas markets
Vietnam’s tourism strategy for the second half of the year centres on three priorities. These include policy reform, international market development and digital transformation.
The government plans to strengthen the national framework for tourism development as it continues to position the sector as a major contributor to economic growth. Officials also intend to increase promotional activities in key international markets and take part in major travel exhibitions to attract more overseas visitors.
Authorities will also expand cooperation between airlines, travel companies and accommodation providers. The aim is to improve travel connectivity, increase package offerings and support higher inbound visitor numbers throughout the year.
