Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board (WCGRB) facilitates cooperation through workshop
The Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board (WCGRB) has recently reiterated its commitment to upholding industry standards and global cooperation. A few days ago, the board hosted a delegation from the Government of the Republic of Zambia along with officials from the Betting and iGaming Association of Zambia (BiGA). During the two-day workshop, the delegates engaged in deliberations aimed at sharing knowledge, best practices, and strategies for enhancing regulatory environments in their jurisdictions.
Strategic direction towards 2030
The workshop aligns with the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board‘s 2025-2030 vision, that aims to achieve a stable, equitable, predictable, and efficient regulatory environment. The 2025 to 2030 strategic plan is founded upon South Africa’s National Development Plan, as stated by the Chairperson of the Board, Mr. C. Bassuday. The strategic goals of the board are aligned with the Provincial Strategic Plan (PSP) 2025 – 2030 and thus align with provincial and national priorities.
This 2025-2030 strategic plan sets out goals and targets for years to come, with plans for performance indicators and program work towards the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework. This keeps the work of the board streamlined and focused on driving socio-economic progress of the Western Cape while being aligned with ideals of efficient regulation and social responsibility.
WCGRB’s commitment to effective regulation
At the core of WCGRB’s mission is to maintain effective regulatory measures over the Western Cape’s gambling sector. The board emphatically states its intentions to:
- Provide a stable, fair, predictable, and efficient regulatory environment.
- Inspiring public confidence and trust and hence creating an environment that is free from corruption, illegal gambling, and racing activities.
- Contribute to the Western Cape economy through innovation and social responsibility.
The workshop provided an opportunity to promote these commitments through dialogue and cooperation with overseas counterparts. These interactions are crucial to ensuring that the board is conversant with global best practices and pioneering regulatory techniques.

The meeting emphasised the importance of global cooperation in pursuing common goals for the gambling industries. By receiving the delegation from Zambia and exchanging information, the WCGRB demonstrates its commitment to promoting collaboration and enhancing the industry’s integrity. The workshop allowed for the dissemination of knowledge and reinforcement of linkages, potentially to pave the way for follow-on information sharing initiatives.
