YesPlay has appointed Tebogo Makamo as its new Chief Executive Officer, placing a long-time gaming technology executive at the helm as the South African betting operator looks to expand its market presence through innovation, customer experience and strategic partnerships. The appointment builds on Makamo’s long-standing relationship with the company, having worked closely with YesPlay for several years as Chief Executive Officer of CDP Gaming Technologies, the provider behind its betting platform.

Experienced industry executive takes the helm

Makamo brings more than 30 years of experience in gaming technology, operations and regulatory compliance. He has led CDP Gaming Technologies since 2015, where he played a central role in developing the technology that supports YesPlay’s betting operations and customer offering.

His career in the gaming industry began in 1995 and has included senior leadership positions across both the public and private sectors. Before joining YesPlay, he founded and led Gron Digital, a blockchain based open gaming utility platform designed to improve transparency and security in the betting industry.

Makamo has also held executive and regulatory roles at BMM Testlabs, the Gauteng Gambling Board, the South African Bureau of Standards and the Mpumalanga Gambling Board. His experience spans gaming technology, compliance, laboratory testing and operational management, giving him a broad understanding of the regulated gambling sector.

Focus on innovation and customer experience

As Chief Executive Officer, Makamo will oversee YesPlay’s next phase of growth with a focus on strengthening customer experience, expanding product innovation and building strategic partnerships across South Africa’s betting market. The company said his appointment reflects its commitment to sustainable growth while responding to changes in the country’s evolving gambling industry.

Commenting on his appointment, Makamo said he was honoured to join the company at an important stage of its development.

He said he had gained a strong understanding of YesPlay through years of working with the business and looked forward to building on its existing foundation. Makamo added that he aims to work closely with employees and partners to continue improving customer experiences while supporting the company’s long-term growth strategy.

Company highlights long-standing partnership

YesPlay Chief Operating Officer Katya Green described Makamo’s appointment as a natural progression for the business, pointing to the close working relationship established through CDP Gaming Technologies.

She said Makamo had already contributed significantly to the technology platform that supports the company’s operations and customer offering. Green added that his understanding of the business, combined with his technical expertise, regulatory knowledge and commercial leadership, made him well placed to lead the company’s next stage of development.

According to the company, Makamo’s familiarity with YesPlay’s technology ecosystem and strategic objectives will support continuity as it continues investing in innovation and expanding its position in South Africa’s competitive betting market. The operator said it expects his leadership to strengthen collaboration with partners while supporting the delivery of new products and services for customers.
