Boyd Gaming to open new casino south of Las Vegas in 2026
Boyd Gaming is set to expand its Southern Nevada footprint with the Cadence Crossing Casino, scheduled to open by late March 2026. Rising on the site of the long-standing Jokers Wild Casino along Boulder Highway in Henderson, the project marks a strategic investment in one of the valley’s fastest-growing communities.
A strategic move in a growing market
Las Vegas-based Boyd Gaming, a dominant player in the locals market alongside Station Casinos, broke ground on Cadence Crossing on 3 April 2025. As quoted on local media outlets, CEO Keith Smith confirmed the first-quarter 2026 opening, pointing to Henderson’s rapid residential growth as a key driver.
The Cadence master-planned community sold more than 1,200 new homes in 2025, ranking third nationally among similar developments. Smith told local media that with the housing boom, Cadence Crossing Casino arrived at the right time to meet growing demand.
Data from the city of Henderson reveals the city is home to over 359,000 residents. City officials describe its economy reflects a diverse mix of retail, healthcare, manufacturing, education, and professional services. The city’s pro-business climate, logistics sector, sports production, and biotech industries further fuel its growth.
While part of the Las Vegas Valley, Henderson distinguishes itself with extensive trail systems, parks, and suburban amenities—offering visitors a quieter, upscale alternative to the Strip. The city is also heavily focused on the upcoming $170 million “Reimagine Boulder Highway” project as it transforms 12 kilometres with bus rapid transit lanes, upgraded utilities, drainage, and bike paths through 2027.
These trends illustrate a broader shift toward experiential travel and eco-friendly options, complementing rather than competing with the casino-centric core.

Investment and features
Though Boyd has not disclosed the full project cost, CFO Josh Hirsberg noted $75 million in capital investments tied to Cadence Crossing and the company’s Paradise projects.
The 50,000-square-foot neighbourhood casino will launch with 450 slot and video poker machines, a centre bar, and multiple dining options. Future phases may expand gaming space and add a four-story hotel with 114 guestrooms, following the demolition of Jokers Wild.
Boyd Gaming’s broader expansion
Cadence Crossing represents one of Boyd’s smaller recent investments compared to larger ventures nationwide. The company operates 28 casinos across 10 states, including 10 properties in Las Vegas.
Other projects include a $750 million resort in Norfolk, Virginia, developed with the Pamunkey Indian Tribe. Boyd opened a temporary casino there in November 2025 while construction continues on a permanent resort featuring a 200-room hotel, 1,500 slot machines, 50 table games, and a sportsbook.
In Illinois, Boyd is redeveloping the Par-A-Dice Hotel Casino, part of its strategy to modernise and diversify its portfolio. The company continues to channel significant investment into smaller “locals” casinos—a segment that offers stability, resilient demand, and dependable cash flow compared to the more volatile, tourist-driven Strip market.
That strategy comes as Las Vegas visitation fell 7.5 percent in 2025, the lowest total since the pandemic recovery year of 2021, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
