Caesars Entertainment, Inc. is now open for pre-registration for Alberta residents as the province gears up for the launch of its regulated online gaming market. The operator made the announcement on Monday. Approved operators will soon be able to offer both online sports betting and casino gaming, marking a significant expansion in Canada’s digital wagering landscape.
Trio of platforms for Alberta players
Early registrants and residents aged 21 and over can now pre‑register for updates on the launch of Caesars’ three online platforms: Caesars Palace Online Casino, Caesars Sportsbook & Casino, and Horseshoe Online Casino. Each platform offers a distinct digital experience tailored to Alberta’s regulated market.
According to the President of Caesars Digital, Eric Hession, he said in a statement that pre‑registration is “a crucial milestone,” noting that it allows players to be ready for launch. The move positions Caesars to capture early interest and build momentum ahead of the official rollout.
Regulatory framework
Alberta’s regulated online gaming market will operate under Bill 48, with oversight from iGaming Alberta and the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC). The bill now establishes an independent provincial authority responsible for licencing and monitoring private‑sector operators.
Alberta is adopting a similar licencing model to that in Ontario. It guarantees organisations like Caesars where they can legally offer online casino and sports betting. The framework includes technical standards, responsible gaming requirements, and consumer protection measures. Alberta has also proposed a tax rate aligned with its broader fiscal policy, while embedding programmes such as exclusion options and mandatory responsible service training.
While Ontario’ s iGaming market is mature and already highly competitive, Alberta is just opening under Bill 48 with a dual-oversight model. The latter is expected to generate hundreds of millions in annual tax revenue, create jobs in tech and compliance, and expand consumer choice.
Expanding North American footprint
Alberta will become the sixth North American jurisdiction where Caesars offers both casino gaming and sports betting via mobile app, underscoring the company’s aggressive digital expansion strategy.
With a population of about 4.5 million, Alberta represents a significant new market. Analysts expect strong demand, driven by the province’s established casino presence and passionate sports culture—particularly hockey and football. Caesars joins other approved operators such as DraftKings, FanDuel, and BetMGM.
Caesars’ online gaming division reported nearly CAD 2 billion in annual revenue, a 21% increase from 2024. Modified EBITDA more than doubled to over CAD 300 million, according to Canadian Gaming Business. These results highlight the company’s growing strength in the digital sector.
Consumer benefits
Early registrants can expect promotional offers, welcome bonuses, and the convenience of mobile play compared to land‑based casinos in Edmonton and Calgary.

Competitive landscape
At least 15 operators have already applied for licences or signalled entry, according to media reports. Caesars’ three‑platform strategy aims to differentiate its offerings in a crowded field. However, with multiple operators entering simultaneously, customer acquisition costs may rise as promotional offers intensify. Retention strategies will be critical in sustaining market share.
Industry experts forecast that Alberta’s iGaming market could reach CAD1–1.5 billion ($722 million– $1.08 billion) annually within a few years, based on Ontario’ s trajectory and Alberta’s size, according to multiple media reports. Additionally, operators could partner with Alberta’s land-based casinos, sports teams, and community organisations, further stimulating local economies.
