An impressive $70 million expansion is on the horizon for the Golden Mesa Casino, a casino located in the Oklahoma Panhandle.
Exciting activity in Oklahoma Panhandle
This expansion project, led by the Shawnee Tribe in collaboration with Global Gaming Solutions, will introduce several enticing features, including a 100-room hotel, a restaurant, and a recreational vehicle park. The primary aim is to draw in visitors from the Amarillo, Texas, area and the broader region.
The recent ground-breaking ceremony marked the commencement of this significant development at the future site of the expanded Golden Mesa Casino, situated near Guymon in Texas County. Among the notable enhancements, the casino’s gaming floor will be doubled in size, accommodating over 1,000 electronic games.
It’s worth noting that while the Shawnee Tribe maintains ownership, the casino’s operations are overseen by GGS, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Chickasaw Nation.
“We are excited to expand our entertainment offerings in the Panhandle and beyond, and we’re grateful to be doing so through a meaningful partnership with Global Gaming and the Chickasaw Nation,” Barnes said. “The rapid growth our tribal nation has undergone just since 2019, and the resources and services we’re now able to provide to our citizens, none of it would have been possible if not for this partnership and the warmth with which the Guymon community has welcomed us out here.”
Currently, Golden Mesa offers around 600 electronic games, six table games, a restaurant, bar, and retail store. Serving as the sole casino in the Panhandle, it attracts visitors not only from Oklahoma but also from neighbouring states. The expansion will elevate the casino’s total space to 80,000 square feet and significantly expand its workforce, adding approximately 75 new jobs to the daily staff, totaling around 250 employees.
“We are pleased to be part of this collaborative effort with the Shawnee Tribe, the city of Guymon, and Texas County to bring the Golden Mesa project to fruition,” Chickasaw Nation Gov. Bill Anoatubby said. “We believe this project will increase tourism, enhance local business growth and improve employment opportunities.”
500 workers mobilised
In the upcoming construction phase, an estimated 500 workers will be actively involved in shaping this ambitious project. On any given day, the site will host a dynamic workforce of 200 to 250 individuals. Overseeing the construction of the RV park, hotel, and casino floor expansion is the experienced team from Oklahoma City-based Flintco.
The project is slated for completion by the spring of 2025. Remarkably, throughout this expansion journey, the casino will continue to operate seamlessly, welcoming guests and enthusiasts without interruption.
“We believe Golden Mesa has delivered economic diversification and enhanced tourism opportunities to this region and we expect the expansion of the casino, as well as the addition of the RV park and hotel, will increase the opportunities and the positive impact in the area,” Chickasaw Nation Secretary of Commerce Dan Boren said.
“It’s been a pleasure watching Golden Mesa grow in this community, and we’re excited to see the impact this phase of growth will be able to make on Texas County and the surrounding areas,” added Shawnee Development President Chris Floyd.
