On 4 November 2025, the African iGaming Alliance (AIA) and the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) partnered up by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The partnership will facilitate integrity and cooperation within Africa’s burgeoning sports and betting industry. These measures ensure responsible sports betting across the continent by promoting sustainable sports betting environments.
Defining roles and objectives
According to the MoU, IBIA becomes AIA’s strategic betting integrity partner, while AIA serves as IBIA’s primary policy and regulation partner in Africa. Among other goals, this initiative protects consumers, operators, and sports from match-fixing and manipulation driven by sports betting.
Commitment to transparency and accountability
Peter Emolemo Kesitilwe, CEO of African iGaming Alliance (AIA), added, “Integrity is the foundation of Africa’s betting future. This partnership between the AIA and IBIA represents a decisive step towards ensuring that Africa’s growing betting industry is anchored on trust, transparency, and accountability. As a pan-African industry platform, AIA is committed to working with global integrity leaders like IBIA to harmonise standards, promote responsible gaming, and support regulators in safeguarding markets from manipulation and illicit practices. Together, we can strengthen Africa’s credibility as a world-class iGaming frontier.”
Establishing a sustainable betting environment
Khalid Ali, IBIA’s CEO, went on to say, “Africa represents one of the most dynamic and fastest-growing betting markets in the world. Ensuring that this growth is underpinned by robust sports betting integrity standards and effective regulation is essential. Our partnership with the African iGaming Alliance reinforces our shared commitment to supporting a sustainable, well-regulated African betting industry that safeguards consumers and sporting competitions alike.”
Building integrity through cooperation
Both organisations can share their perspectives on betting integrity issues, regulations, and policy trends on the continent through this partnership. Both IBIA and AIA, through this partnership, will be able to create and develop programmes that can improve integrity structures for licensed bookmakers on the continent and help them work more closely together as members of these two bodies. Between 2020 and Q3 2025, IBIA recorded a total of 131 suspicious betting warnings on African sports events. Football was responsible for 64 of these warnings, followed closely by Tennis, which accounted for 62 warnings. These figures demonstrate the need for greater vigilance in monitoring sports betting across the African continent.
IBIA’s worldwide presence and expertise
International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) currently boasts support from over 90 operators and 200 gaming brands worldwide. It tracks more than 1.5 million sports events and bets totalling $300 billion annually. With its monitoring across the globe, intelligence, and cooperation with other stakeholders, IBIA has proven itself as a valuable associate for sports authorities and regulators. Its alert system has helped secure convictions against several instances of match fixing, solidifying its importance as a watchdog for integrity in the gaming sector.
A trusted iGaming frontier
The partnership between IBIA and AIA represents a significant turning point for Africa’s iGaming sector. It allows both organisations to share insights on regulatory developments and innovation that will help develop sports betting markets based on integrity values. With these two bodies continuing the harmonisation of policies and sharing of intelligence, Africa’s sports betting sector is likely to derive definite benefits from better regulation and integrity measures.
Africa’s iGaming force is rising, and Cape Town’s shaping the continent’s future. From 04–06 August 2026, SiGMA Africa will bring together 3,000 delegates, 780 operators, and 150+ speakers to the table. This isn’t hype. It’s happening. Don’t sleep on it.
