Kalshi, the United States-based prediction markets platform, has achieved a major milestone by exceeding $1 billion in monthly traded volume. The company now holds more than 62 percent of the global market share, a sharp rise from just 3.1 percent one year ago. This growth has firmly positioned Kalshi as the leading player in the global prediction markets industry.

Rapid growth in market share

According to data, Kalshi has captured 62.2 percent of the global prediction market volume, up from 3.1 percent a year earlier. In terms of transaction numbers, its share increased from 12.9 percent to 63.9 percent over the same period.

The platform also set a single-day trading record during Week 2 of the National Football League (NFL) season, with 588,520 trades executed in 24 hours. These records come despite Kalshi’s services being limited to United States users. The restrictions have not stopped the company from leading global activity, showing its dominance in a competitive space.

First steps into sports betting

Although Kalshi has historically concentrated on markets related to politics, the economy, and events, the website has just lately ventured into the sports betting industry. Compared to well-known betting sites like FanDuel or DraftKings, its sports offerings are not as extensive. Nonetheless, the action indicates Kalshi’s intention to diversify its product line and enter a new market.

The NFL-related markets have drawn strong user engagement, contributing to record trading levels. These steps indicate that sports-related prediction markets may become a significant part of Kalshi’s future growth strategy.

Challenges in the US

Despite its rapid rise, Kalshi operates within a complex regulatory environment. Prediction markets in the United States continue to face scrutiny and legal uncertainties. Experts recently highlighted potential challenges related to “swaps,” which could create obstacles for Kalshi and other operators in the sector.

The company’s growth has come in the face of these ongoing uncertainties, showing resilience in a market that is still shaping its long-term framework.

CEO attributes success to user focus

Kalshi’s Chief Executive Officer, Tarek Mansour, credited the company’s performance to its commitment to building a user-focused product. He explained that the company’s strategy has been to create a platform that directly connects with users rather than focusing solely on metrics.

Strategic expansion into cryptocurrency

Another factor in Kalshi’s growth has been its expansion into cryptocurrency and blockchain ecosystems. In May, the company partnered with Solana, a blockchain platform designed for decentralised applications and cryptocurrencies.

By working with Solana, Kalshi aims to improve prediction market infrastructure, enhance transaction efficiency and reach a broader user base. This step also opens opportunities to link prediction markets with the growing digital asset economy.

Poker star Daniel Negreanu partners with Kalshi

Earlier, Kalshi entered into a partnership with Professional poker champion Daniel Negreanu. The announcement was made by Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour on 16 September (Tuesday), who compared Negreanu’s career journey in professional poker with Kalshi’s own regulatory struggles. Negreanu, nicknamed “Kid Poker,” brings seven World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets and over $56 million in tournament winnings to the collaboration.
