Kangwon Land Incorporated disclosed its fourth-quarter and full-year 2025 financial results through filings submitted to the Korea Exchange (KRX), reporting higher annual revenue alongside year-on-year declines in operating and net income.

Earnings disclosure filed

In a statutory earnings preview notice filed on 21 January, Kangwon Land Incorporated announced that it would release its audited year-end financial results for the period from 1 October to 31 December 2025 on 28 January. This announcement was made through the Korea Exchange’s electronic disclosure system, the Korea Investor’s Network for Disclosure (KIND), with acceptance number 20260121000685.

Under the Korea Exchange listing rules, issuers are required to notify the market in advance of the timing of their audited year-end financial results. The KRX regularly updates its disclosure framework to require the prompt reporting of material events related to financial status, business changes, and profit and loss analysis, which includes the submission of annual and quarterly financial statements at the end of the fiscal year.

Based on the data released through the KRX filing process and reported by various financial market data providers, Kangwon Land Incorporated posted a revenue of about KRW 1.48 trillion (US$1.08 billion) for the entire year, a 3.5 percent increase from the previous year. Operating income for the year declined to KRW 235.18 billion ($171.2 million), while net income fell to KRW 316.52 billion ($230.5 million), marking a decrease of just over 30 percent year-on-year, based on the same filings.

Kangwon Land Incorporated reports its financial results in accordance with Korean International Financial Reporting Standards (K-IFRS) and is listed on the Korea Exchange under ticker 035250.KS. Listed companies in South Korea follow a periodic reporting regime that includes the submission of annual business reports within a specified number of days after the fiscal year end, as well as interim and quarterly reports in accordance with exchange rules.

Operational and regulatory context

Kangwon Land Incorporated operates the Kangwon Land Casino located in Gangwon Province in South Korea. Under national gambling laws, most forms of casino gambling are prohibited for South Korean citizens, with the country’s gambling regime highly regulated across categories including land-based casinos, lotteries, horse racing, and sports betting. Only one casino, i.e., Kangwon Land Casino, is permitted by law to serve local residents, with other land-based casinos restricted to foreign visitors.

The regulatory environment for gambling in South Korea is a reflection of a balance of economic and social considerations. Foreigners are the only ones allowed to gamble in casinos outside of Kangwon Land, which has always been subject to special regulations related to the development of the region.

Being the only casino operating in the country that is open to locals makes Kangwon Land the focal point of dual regulation. The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism regulates the casino license and terms of operation, while financial reporting is regulated by the KRX listing requirements. In September 2024, the Ministry approved an expansion of the casino, which would enable an extension of the gaming space and the number of gaming devices. The company’s board of directors approved KRW 179.6 billion ($130.8 million) in construction expenses in relation to the expansion, as reported in the company’s KRX filing in December 2024. This expansion is part of the developments in the casino’s operational allowances.

The implemented regulatory structure reflects South Korea’s broader approach to gambling controls, under which licensed operators must also comply with responsible gaming and player protection measures. These include age restrictions and identity verification for patrons, requirements that are enforced at casino access points across the country.

The audited financial statements released on 28 January represent Kangwon Land Incorporated’s formal statutory disclosure for the 2025 financial year under Korea Exchange reporting requirements. These results will be used by investors, analysts, and other stakeholders to inform assessments of the company’s performance under current market and regulatory conditions.
