Macau’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) increased 6.7 per cent year-on-year in May 2026, reaching MOP22.61 billion ($2.80 billion), as strong tourism demand and a surge in holiday visitors continued to support the recovery of the world’s largest casino market. Data released by Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau showed that May casino revenue was also 13.7 per cent higher than April’s MOP19.89 billion ($2.47 billion).
The latest figures bring Macau GGR for the first five months of 2026 to MOP108.38 billion ($13.44 billion), representing a 10.9 per cent increase compared with the same period in 2025.
Labour Day holiday boosts Macau GGR and casino revenue
Industry analysts had anticipated a strong performance for Macau casinos during mainland China’s five-day Labour Day holiday period, which began on May 1. Official figures show Macau welcomed about 873,000 visitors during the holiday period, averaging nearly 174,600 arrivals per day between May 1 and May 5. The influx of tourists helped drive higher casino traffic, hotel occupancy and spending across the city’s integrated resorts.
According to Macau’s Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), the city recorded approximately 3.4 million visitor arrivals in April 2026, an increase of 11.3 per cent compared with the same month last year. Growth was supported primarily by a sharp rise in same-day visitors, which reached out about 2.1 million. Overnight arrivals also increased by 0.6 per cent to about 1.3 million. Mainland China remained Macau’s largest source market.
Analysts expect Macau GGR growth to continue in 2026
CBRE Equity Research recently forecast that Macau GGR could rise by 8.3 per cent in 2026. This forecast builds on Macau’s 2025 performance, when total GGR reached MOP247.40 billion ($30.68 billion). Analysts cited resilient consumer demand, improving tourism trends and continued recovery in the mass-market gaming segment as major growth catalysts.

During the first quarter of 2026, Macau generated MOP65.87 billion ($8.17 billion) in gross gaming revenue, up 14.3 per cent year-on-year. CBRE analysts believe this momentum positions the market to outperform broader industry expectations over the remainder of the year.
Macau gaming revenue outlook remains positive
While analysts remain constructive on Macau’s gaming sector, some caution remains regarding China’s consumer spending environment and limited new hotel and gaming capacity. A separate outlook from S&P Global Ratings projects Macau GGR growth of between 3 per cent and 7 per cent in 2026, reflecting a moderation from the post-pandemic rebound period. However, the agency expects premium mass-market demand, increasing visitor arrivals and steady earnings before taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) growth to continue supporting casino operators.
Industry observers also note that ongoing investments in entertainment, events and non-gaming attractions are helping Macau diversify its tourism offering and attract a broader range of visitors.
Macau GGR recovery gains momentum in 2026
The latest Macau GGR figures underline the continued strength of the city’s gaming recovery. Rising visitor arrivals, solid holiday demand and improving consumer confidence have helped Macau casinos maintain positive momentum through the first half of 2026.
Meanwhile, Macau’s gaming tax revenue rose sharply during the first four months of 2026, supported by steady casino earnings and continued visitor activity in the city’s gaming sector. Macau government collected MOP34.87 billion ($4.32 billion) in gaming tax revenue from January to April, a 16.8 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The Macau government has set a full-year gaming tax revenue target of MOP92.7 billion ($11.56 billion) for the 2026 fiscal year.
