From driving cars to a poker star
Lopes’ career didn’t skyrocket overnight. His interest in poker began at the young age of 16 while he played with his friends at school. While his interest in the game is undeniable, he actually started as an Uber driver in Brazil before founding his first company, which became the country’s first affiliate school.
“I’m not a professional poker player,” he admitted, but he enthusiastically shared how he always does his best to be a good player. Playing at a table full of pro and recreational players, Lopes emphasised how the game has always been a mix of luck and skill.
Lopes has a track record of winning the Best Affiliate award in SiGMA World, and he’s definitely aiming for more!
Poker in Brazil
In this interview, Lopes openly discussed Brazil’s landscape in the world of poker and how the recent regulatory developments in the region have helped more people to know poker, not just as plain gambling or something that is associated with addiction. These developments have allowed people to see the game in a different light, similar to how the world sees chess as a sport.
Lopes was positively looking into the future of poker following its recent boom in the region. He is looking forward to seeing more operators and players practising responsible gaming, guided by the recent support the region is getting from the government.
