Sip and safari experience beyond the summit floor

A select group of Premium and Platinum attendees of SiGMA Africa Summit 2026 in Cape Town had the opportunity to step away from the conference floor and visit the beautiful and spacious vistas of the Durbanville Wine Valley. The invitation-only, curated wine and safari getaway combined an exclusive means of networking, relaxation and real South African hospitality in one unique experience.

The trip began at the Welcome Centre Entrance of GrandWest Casino, where delegates met at 8:45 am to have a few informal chats before boarding their private coach, which transported them out of the city and into the countryside.

A refined start at Maastricht

The first winery was Maastricht Wines, an award-winning boutique with great wines and a friendly atmosphere for tasting.

The scenery around the winery included many vineyards as well as breathtaking views of the rolling hills surrounding the winery, which reminded all guests of the long-established history of the wine industry in the Western Cape.

During the structured wine tastings, delegates experienced local wines, such as crisp white wines and full-bodied reds, that represent the flavours of the Durbanville area, which is known for its cool Atlantic breezes and rich soil.

As the pouring of wine continued, so too did the conversation among the attendees. Leaders and representatives from the various industries met and shared ideas not only on business but also on their love of fine craft and the origin of each wine being poured.

The experience at Maastricht thoroughly set the mood for the day: sophisticated yet casual; experiential rather than task-oriented. This highlights the mission of SiGMA to provide experiences outside of the boardroom, building relationships in environments that enhance authentic engagement.

A scenic interlude at Hilltop Boma

After tasting, the attendees got back on the bus before entering deeper into the valley. A short, but unforgettable interlude occurred at the Hilltop Boma in the Clara Anna Fontein Game Reserve, where delegates enjoyed another few glasses of wine and stunning views of the vineyards.

This part of the itinerary was not only a refreshment break; it also allowed for informal conversation, exploring partnerships, and sharing reflections on the major themes that emerged during the summit. Under a backdrop of lush green landscape and open skies, attendees were able to experience the more tranquil pace of the Cape winelands – a deliberate contrast to the high-energy expo floor.

Into the wild

The experience transitioned quickly from a vineyard to a veld as the adventure started to unfold. The bus continued its ride, and excitement began to build among the delegates as they readied for their upcoming safari adventure in South Africa’s wilderness.

Delegates were divided into groups with approximately 20 guests per group and loaded onto safari trucks. The trucks climbed through rugged terrain before arriving at an area of the bush where they were able to view hundreds of acres of land that contained large amounts of indigenous plant life. Shortly thereafter, delegates began experiencing wildlife in its natural environment. Ostriches grazing throughout the plains, and wildebeest moved in measured herds, embodying the raw, untamed spirit of the African bush. Other species added to the spectacle, reinforcing the biodiversity that defines the region.

The safari provided a truly dynamic experience for all delegates throughout the day. Attendees now had an experience of Africa, other than by way of city infrastructure and a corporate setting, that was connected with their natural heritage and the ecology of the country.

A strategic blend of business and leisure

This exclusive excursion illustrated SiGMA’s holistic approach to event programming. By integrating cultural immersion with premium networking, the summit delivered value that extended beyond formal sessions and exhibition stands. The Durbanville outing was not merely a leisure activity; it functioned as a relationship accelerator, fostering trust and rapport in an environment defined by authenticity.

As the safari concluded, guests returned to the coach for the journey back to their hotel in Cape Town. The drive offered a moment of quiet reflection after a day marked by fine wine, sweeping landscapes, and close encounters with wildlife. Delegates arrived back in the city with renewed energy, ready to re-engage with the summit’s agenda.
