As the previous SiGMA Poker Tour 2025 in Malta has crowned its newest main event champion, Italian player Davide Iannaco, following a gripping final table that combined skill, composure, and a hint of fortune. In an exclusive SiGMA TV interview, Iannaco reflected on what it means to emerge victorious in his first-ever poker tournament win – a defining moment for the player now based in Malta and professionally involved in the betting industry.
A breakthrough Poker victory
“I’m very happy; it’s the first tournament I’ve ever won,” Iannaco said, his satisfaction tangible. The emotional high point came as he described how he approached the heads-up stage from a disadvantaged position, managing to turn the result around through both confidence and careful play. “I started at a disadvantage, but I managed to overturn it against a great player,” he explained.
This underdog victory has become a talking point across the local poker scene, not merely for the win but for the way it encapsulated the SiGMA Poker Tour’s competitive spirit. Iannaco admitted there was a pivotal moment when he truly began to believe he could claim the title: “There was a specific moment when I started to really believe – when there were four players left and I had a good stack. I felt confident with the table.” The belief paid off as fortune favoured him in a clutch three-way hand holding pocket aces – a straightforward yet game-changing play that paved his route to triumph.
Strategy, confidence and experience
Far from being a full-time poker professional, Iannaco emphasised that his gaming passion is fuelled by genuine enthusiasm rather than profession. “I’m not a professional player; it’s a passion I’ve had for years,” he noted. Maintaining what he called a “standard” playing style throughout, he nevertheless adapted when confidence grew as the field narrowed.
“At about 30 players left, I felt very confident with the table. I opened more hands, widened my range, and pushed a bit more – the cards helped too.” His strategic adjustments and calm table demeanour revealed an instinctive understanding of game texture and timing – qualities often seen among seasoned competitors.
Beyond the table
Away from the felt, Iannaco works as a senior trader at OIA Services LTD – a detail that highlights the intersection between professional analytics and recreational play. Despite the success, he stays grounded: “It’s an important win for me, I’m very happy, but it doesn’t change anything. I prefer to keep poker as a passion.”
