Riise notes that a very unique combination of patience, mental endurance, and moments of high excitement frames the poker experience for him: mixing mental stillness and observation, with sudden moments of adrenaline-inducing competition.

He noted, “Everybody has their own style of playing poker. Observing different strategies allows him to refine his own approach while understanding the nuances of the game. Riise mentioned that the simple act of poker allows stories to flow through conversation, an exchange to learn from one another, and friendship to develop. “You meet them, have a drink with them, have a dinner or a lunch, and they play poker,” he said.
