New Hampshire’s Casino Salem launches with HHR and table games
Casino Salem will officially open on 9 July 2025 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for 1 p.m. at The Mall at Rockingham Park in Salem, New Hampshire. Actor Steve Schirripa, known for The Sopranos, is expected to place the first bets on the Historical Horse Racing (HHR) machines. Local officials, business leaders, and community members are anticipated to attend, with co-owners Joe Faro and Sal Lupoli scheduled to speak at the event.
Casino Salem’s gaming line-up
The casino will feature HHR machines, which allow players to bet on previously run horse races using slot-style interfaces. These machines are permitted under New Hampshire’s charitable gaming regulations.
In addition to HHR machines, Casino Salem will offer traditional table games, including poker. The facility will also include a quick-service food area and a full-service bar. According to the developers, further dining options are planned for future phases.
Economic Impact on local community
The opening of Casino Salem is expected to generate employment across various departments, including gaming, food service, and maintenance. Situated next to Tuscan Village, the casino is also anticipated to increase foot traffic to nearby businesses such as restaurants and retail outlets.
In line with New Hampshire’s charitable gaming laws, a portion of the casino’s revenue will be allocated to local charities. Estimates from the operators suggest that charitable contributions could exceed $121 million over the next decade.
The casino occupies the former Lord & Taylor site at The Mall at Rockingham Park. This redevelopment is part of a broader initiative to repurpose underutilised commercial properties in the area.
Developers share vision
Joe Faro and Sal Lupoli, both active in regional business and redevelopment efforts, are leading the project. In a joint statement, they said, “We are thrilled to open Casino Salem and bring a new amenity to Salem. With this initial phase, we can drive economic stimulus to our local economy, create new jobs, and increase tourism immediately, setting the foundation to create lasting benefits for the community for decades.”
Jeff Favre, Executive Vice President, has overseen the phased development strategy, focusing on operational readiness and future expansion. He added, “By opening the casino in phases, we can expedite the addition of charitable gaming to the entertainment and tourism assets that Salem has to offer, in addition to generating contributions to organisations in need.”
Gaming sector growth in New Hampshire
Elsewhere in the state, Aces and Eights Casino at Hampton Beach has received zoning approval to expand its gaming floor from 8,000 to 31,000 square feet. This reflects a broader trend of growth within New Hampshire’s gaming industry.
Charitable gaming remains a central component of the state’s regulatory framework. Facilities such as Casino Salem are required to contribute a portion of their revenue to local charities, aligning entertainment offerings with community support.
