Prediction markets platform Kalshi has rolled out a new set of market integrity measures, including a risk-scoring system and additional checks for traders seeking to participate in higher-risk markets.
The changes were announced on 9 June 2026 by Head of Enforcement Robert DeNault, following recommendations from the company’s independent Surveillance Audit Committee and come as prediction markets continue to grow in popularity across sports, politics and global events.
Under the new framework, every market will be reviewed before launch and assigned a risk score based on six factors. These include the potential influence of corporate events, the possibility that outcomes could be affected by a limited number of individuals, regulatory considerations, and whether participants have access to any information that is not publicly available.
National security in considerations
The platform will also assess national security considerations, particularly in markets where military actions or geopolitical developments could influence the final outcome.
For markets considered higher risk, traders will now be asked to provide their employer information before they can participate. Kalshi says the requirement is intended to help identify individuals who may have access to sensitive information that could provide an unfair advantage. In some cases, participation may be restricted if potential conflicts of interest are identified.
The move comes at a time when prediction markets are attracting increasing attention from regulators, investors and major sports organisations. Platforms such as Kalshi allow users to trade on the outcomes of real-world events, ranging from elections and economic data releases to sporting contests and geopolitical developments. As interest in event-based forecasting continues to expand, adjacent sectors such as top-rated online sportsbooks have also experienced growing user engagement, reflecting broader consumer demand for platforms that offer exposure to the outcomes of real-world events.
DeNault said the measures are aimed at strengthening confidence in the platform as the sector continues to evolve. Alongside the announcement, Kalshi also shared new details about its enforcement activity during the first quarter of 2026.
Several cases of insider trading
The stricter controls follow a number of insider-trading cases that brought added scrutiny to the industry earlier this year. In February 2026, Kalshi revealed that it had reported two cases to regulators. One involved a former California gubernatorial candidate who traded on the outcome of his own race, while another centred on a YouTube editor accused of using confidential information to place trades. Both individuals were fined and suspended from the platform.
More recently, the company also took action against several political candidates who were found to have traded on markets tied to their own election campaigns. Questions around market integrity have extended beyond Kalshi. Rival platform Polymarket has also faced attention from authorities after a US Army soldier was accused of profiting from trades linked to sensitive military information, adding to broader calls for tighter oversight across the prediction market sector.
According to Kalshi, more than 150 investigations were conducted during the first quarter, and over 100 potentially problematic trades were blocked before they could be completed. The company also referred more than 20 matters to law enforcement agencies and issued five disciplinary actions.
To make reporting easier, Kalshi has added whistleblower tools directly to market pages, allowing users to flag suspicious activity to its surveillance team. The company said its independent Surveillance Audit Committee will continue publishing quarterly reviews as prediction markets become an increasingly prominent part of the financial and wagering landscape.
