UFC returns to Macau in May 2026, eyes on sports betting impact
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has announced that it will return to Macau in May 2026. This will be another big international athletic event for the city. The comeback is expected to boost interest in live sports entertainment, with attention also returning to regulated sports betting as Macau continues to broaden its non-gaming offerings.
The mixed martial arts organisation said the three-day fight week will take place from 28 to 30 May. All events will be held at Galaxy Arena, the largest indoor venue in Macau, located within the Galaxy Macau integrated resort. The return forms part of the UFC’s ongoing efforts to grow its presence across Asian markets.
The opening two days, on 28 and 29 May, will see the first rounds of Road to UFC Season 5. The tournament is designed to help develop fighters from the Asia-Pacific region, giving emerging talent a clear path towards UFC contracts. Officials have previously said the programme plays a key role in building the sport’s long-term growth in Asia.
Fight Night: A three-day event
The week will conclude with a UFC Fight Night on 30 May, which will be the main event broadcast globally. The full fight card has yet to be announced, a detail that is expected to maintain fan interest in the months ahead.
The 2026 Fight Night will mark the UFC’s fifth appearance in Macau and follows the strong performance of its most recent event in the city. UFC Fight Night: Yan vs. Figueiredo, held in November 2024, sold out the 12,000-seat Galaxy Arena and exceeded attendance expectations.
That event featured several high-profile bouts, including former bantamweight champion Petr Yan facing former flyweight titleholder Deiveson Figueiredo in the main event. A women’s strawweight contest between China’s Yan Xiaonan and Brazil’s Tabatha Ricci also helped drive regional engagement, while multiple fighters earned Performance of the Night bonuses.
Four-year deal with Galaxy Ent. Group
The UFC’s return is being viewed as another step in reshaping the city’s post-pandemic tourism and events strategy. The return is part of a four-year partnership with Galaxy Entertainment Group, under which three Fight Night events will be staged at Galaxy Arena between 2026 and 2029. All UFC events in Macau during that period will be held exclusively at the venue.
UFC President Dana White has previously said the partnership reflects growing demand from Chinese and Asian audiences, describing Macau as a natural base for expanding the promotion’s footprint in the region. Galaxy Arena’s scale and infrastructure have also been cited as key factors in securing repeat events.
The deal aligns closely with the Macao SAR Government’s ongoing efforts to diversify the local economy beyond gaming. Officials have prioritised the development of international sports, cultural events, and entertainment to broaden the city’s tourism offering.
Sports betting buzz reignited
Galaxy Entertainment Group has said future fight weeks will be integrated with wider hospitality and leisure experiences across the resort, encouraging visitors to extend their stays. Tourism authorities expect major UFC events to attract international visitors and generate higher spending across hotels, retail, and entertainment venues.
For the unaware, Macau has a tightly regulated, concession-based sports betting system under the oversight of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ). Industry observers believe that high-profile events like the NBA and NFL will surely drive increased engagement and interest around regulated wagering products, despite continued restrictions on online gambling.
