A delegation of investors from Gateway Ventures, a startup investment platform headquartered in Vienna, Austria, visited the SiGMA Group office in Malta on 11 November 2025 as part of their ongoing exploration of business and investment opportunities on the island. The visit formed part of Gateway Ventures’ broader mission to connect with emerging companies and drive collaborative growth across Europe’s innovation hubs.
During their time at SiGMA, the group was welcomed by Heathcliff Farrugia, Chief Operating Officer of SiGMA Group, who led a guided tour of the offices. The visit concluded with a presentation outlining SiGMA’s mission, its global activities, and its commitment to advancing innovation in the iGaming and emerging technology ecosystems.
This exchange followed the successful SiGMA Central Europe event, which gathered more than 30,000 attendees at the Fiera Roma in Italy earlier this year. The convergence of thought leaders, startups, and investors at that summit reflected SiGMA’s standing as a global meeting point for technology-driven business communities.
Strengthening ties with innovators
Through knowledge sharing and open dialogue, the meeting created meaningful opportunities to discuss Malta’s evolving startup landscape and the expanding role of venture investment within it. Farrugia’s presentation showcased the SiGMA Group’s position as both a catalyst and convenor for forward-looking businesses in gaming, entertainment, and technology.

Gateway Ventures’ visit was aligned with its objective of discovering high-potential enterprises and technologies across Europe. Established in Vienna, the firm operates as a dynamic investment platform connecting early-stage companies with private and institutional investors across sectors ranging from health and education to digital services. Its community-driven approach positions it at the intersection of growth capital and entrepreneurial innovation.
Empowering startups through opportunity
Innovation remains central to SiGMA’s global activities. Startups receive particular attention through initiatives such as the SiGMA Pitch competition and the Startup Village, both designed to provide exposure and engagement opportunities with investors and industry leaders during the group’s international summits. These initiatives reflect SiGMA’s long-standing belief that entrepreneurship flourishes when new ideas are given the platform and audience they deserve.
The Gateway Ventures delegation’s visit underlined Malta’s growing prominence as a strategic base for high-value investment in tech-driven sectors. The exchange between both organisations reinforced shared values around supporting innovative ventures that contribute to scalable, sustainable growth.
SiGMA South Asia, Colombo, is up next – taking place from 30 November to 2 December.
