Japan’s Konami Entertainment reported a solid start to its FY27 financial year, with strong gaming performance helping lift revenue and profits to new highs. The company’s Digital Entertainment division remained the biggest contributor, continuing to power overall growth during the quarter.

In the first quarter ended on 30 June 2026, the company posted revenue of ¥129.5 billion ($875 million), i.e. 33.6 per cent higher than a year earlier. Business profit jumped 61.7 per cent to ¥44.7 billion ($302 million), while operating profit increased 63.3 per cent to ¥45.3 billion ($306 million).

Net profit attributable to shareholders reached a record ¥32.6 billion ($220 million), marking a 64.2 per cent year-on-year increase.

Strong demand for gaming portfolio

The company said the performance was largely driven by strong demand across its gaming portfolio. Konami’s Digital Entertainment division remained its largest revenue generator, bringing in ¥100.08 billion ($676 million) during the quarter, up 36.5 per cent from the previous year. Business profit from the segment increased 57.4 per cent to ¥43.87 billion ($296 million).

The division accounted for roughly 77 per cent of Konami’s total revenue and almost 98 per cent of total segment business profit, underlining the growing importance of gaming within the company’s broader business. Konami credited the strong performance to a combination of new game launches and continued engagement with its live-service titles.

During the quarter, the company released PAWAFURU PUROYAKYU 2026-2027, marking the 30th anniversary of the franchise’s popular Success Mode, as well as eFootball Kick-Off! for the Nintendo Switch 2.

eFootball crosses billion downloads

Konami’s biggest football title, eFootball, passed the one billion download mark during the quarter, with the company marking the milestone through a series of anniversary events for the mobile game.

Its baseball portfolio also had a strong quarter. eBaseball: MLB PRO SPIRIT surpassed five million downloads worldwide and introduced a limited-time event featuring Shohei Ohtani. Other baseball titles kept players engaged through collaborations with popular anime franchises.

The company has confirmed it will keep investing in its long-running Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise through new trading card releases linked to Yu-Gi-Oh! CARD GAME THE CHRONICLES. It also remained active in esports, supporting competitions such as the eJ.League eFootball 2026 Season Finals, the WBSC eBaseball Series 2026 and Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2026 qualifiers.

Outside of video games, Konami’s Gaming & Systems business also delivered strong growth. Revenue rose 64.9 per cent year-on-year as demand increased for the company’s slot machines, Bomberman casino content and SYNKROS casino management systems. Expansion across North America and Australia also contributed to the division’s improved performance.

FY27 forecast unchanged

Looking ahead, Konami has kept its full-year FY2027 forecast the same. The company expects ¥505 billion ($3.41 billion) in revenue for the financial year while maintaining its profit guidance.

The remainder of the year will also see several major releases, including Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, Silent Hill: Townfall, eBaseball: PRO SPIRIT 2026, and Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, which forms part of the franchise’s 40th anniversary celebrations.

With both new releases and established live-service games continuing to perform well, Konami appears well positioned to maintain its momentum through the rest of FY2027.
